Bus

Since September of 1971, Gateway has seen literally thousands of children and their families come to Sunday school and church! Some of our own church and school staff came to us as a result of being saved through the bus ministry. Multitudes of laymen as well as a number of preachers and missionaries also serve the Lord throughout the world because of being reached through this fruitful ministry.

Luke 14:23 is the "Great Commission" of our bus ministry, "And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled." Our ultimate purpose is to reach children and their families with the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After they have received Jesus as Savior, our goal is to help them grow in their Christian lives through exciting and practical Bible teaching. With these goals in mind, our bus ministry continues today seeking to be a blessing to our community and surrounding city as well as our neighboring city, Norfolk, and parts of
Chesapeake.

Our Bus Ministry is comprised of several different bus routes with many volunteer workers. Each bus route has a CDL certified bus driver, a bus captain, and trained workers to help with the children on the ride to and from church. Bus Captains go out every Saturday to visit their riders and sign up new families to ride. The buses then make their rounds on Sunday morning and arrive in time for our "B" Sunday school and main worship service at 10:45 a.m. The bus workers escort the children to their proper Sunday school classes where they are greeted by friendly, caring teachers, eager to make each child feel welcome. Our teen church leads 9th-12th graders in an exciting and meaningful worship service.

The bus ministry at Gateway also provides fun & wholesome activities outside the Sunday school class. Children enjoy a special program of singing & Bible activities on the bus each Sunday. Throughout the year, there are skating parties, bus picnics, contests and various field trips. In the summer, riders get to join in as we have our annual watermelon feast and ice cream feast! In addition, the annual Children's Crusade is always an exciting event for children & adults alike!

Our Bus Ministry provides safe transportation for you and your children at no cost to your family. All workers Sunday school teachers & bus are approved by our pastoral staff and are faithful members of Gateway Free Will Baptist Church.

We would love to hear from you! If you or someone in your family need a ride to church, please contact
the church at (757) 499-9686.
